A friend sent me here because my daughter Maggie just learned to open the babygates.

We have the doorknob covers. They do fine at stopping the 2 1/2 year old - but just-turned-4 Maggie can bypass them easily.

I have encountered one of those toddler-proof door knobs. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to get out of the people’s house! Of course, Jessica was there laughing with me. It was pretty sad.

And curse those child-proof caps, I can never open the stupid advil when I need it!!

We’ve already made plans to get the toddler-proof door knob locks for more dangerous parts of the house like the laundry room. I have a sneaking suspicion that these locks are toddler-proof in the same way that medicine caps are child-proof: we’ll have to ask Eli to let us into the laundry room.

You do know about toddler-proof doorknob covers, right? I don’t know that that’s what they’re called, but they go over the doorknob and require you to push some buttons in before the knob will turn. That ought to slow Eli down for, oh, all of thirty seconds, at least, right?
