I have far less patience with other children than I do with Eli, LB. Undoubtedly that says something not-so-flattering about me, but there you go.

Joyce, it felt like overkill because it was clearly an accident, was something he’d never done before, and had no good way of knowing would land him in trouble. I don’t think the punishment in and of itself was out of line, just our use of it in that situation.

The description of this incident reminds me why I am not a parent. In fact, I think I have some kind of patience “deficit.” I can’t figure out if this is because I’m single and childless or because I am just a plain old selfish person.
You guys are great parents for not flipping out (at least on the outside)!

Yeah, that setting-boundaries stuff is, I imagine from afar, the tough part. But remember: the best designs often come from constraints.

I don’t think it was overkill…I certainly can’t imagine it’s the sort of thing he’ll be telling his therapist about in 20 years’ time, so you’re probably in the clear.
