I’m shocked that you’ve actually read The Silmarillion. I tried to read that in high school. I mean I really liked J.R.R. Tolkien, but you’re a special kind of dork to make it through that!

I read The Fountainhead because, in high school, some weird organization called The Ayn Rand Foundation was offering scholarships to the best essays about the book. I slogged through it, wrote my essay, and got nothing.

Then I decided I should try Atlas Shrugged and foundered on the shoals of its icy irrational rationalism. To this day my favorite answer to that book is from Bob the Angry Flower.

What? couldn’t finish atlas shrugged? Did the 12 hour, 120 page homily near the end cause you to want to kill yourself?

I got through it in high school and didn’t really have a full command of it’s ridiculousness until college.
