Arthur C. Clarke, 1917-2008

I’m back from my conference and am all kinds of tired. I did want to note the passing of Arthur C. Clarke, whose novels I enjoyed and who had the audacity to invent the concept of the geostationary communication satellite.

Okay, it may have been because I was sitting on the couch at your house last night when I first read about this, but my first thought was, “I wish I could talk to Stephen about this.”

I’m not extensively read on Clarke [or any scifi, really, no doubt much to my "I've had an Analog subscription since the 1960's" father's chagrin], but I have enjoyed the stuff I’ve read, plus … you know, geostat.

IEEE interviewed him recently. I haven’t read this yet, but here is the url: http://spectrum.ieee.org/mar08/6075

I really enjoyed reading Clarke when I was growing up. I was a big sci-fi junkie as a teen and haven’t really grown out of it (although my tastes have branched out).

    Jessica,

Hey, that’s a cool interview. Thanks for the link.
