IF nothing else, you send that money back as a dividend to your shareholders.

I understand that there’s a marketplace for high-end managerial and financial talent, and that these folks have a market that demands high compensation, in the same way that the sports and entertainment markets demand high compensation for their elites. But I fear that all this babbling about bonuses is simply masking the larger problem—an examination of overall compensation.

Of course, no one wants to talk about that. Stephen, you know lots of personal details about me, but you don’t know my salary. Isn’t that really weird? I share a lot of information with you as a close friend and confidante, but not how much money I make. That just seems silly to me, because my salary is really Not That Important compared to the other, far more personal things I share with you.

I am so with you. We moved most of our money to a local bank last summer. We earn a little interest, AND we don’t help these scumbags make another dime. We don’t invest with them either. When my mom called to talk to a representative of one of these fine institutions about their low interest rate on a CD, he actually said, “Well, we’re not really that interested in depositors right now. We just want to loan money.” What?
