Baby Shopping: Almost Better than the Actual Baby

I have a thing about bags. Some of you know this already. I try to keep it under control but it’s hard really. They call to me and ask me to take them home. I have a dollar limit that I don’t like to exceed at any given purchase and I try to only buy something about once a quarter. But a new baby means a new diaper bag and I found the exact one that I wanted today on SALE! The best part, it’s a sling so it’s totally rocker-dad friendly. Stephen won’t be embarrassed to have it on. Here’s a photo:

The other very cool thing that I bought today was a hotsling. My sister-in-law turned me on to them. I was very interested in them as they are fit to you, as opposed to a system of pulleys and ratchets that annoy you into pitching it across the room. I had one of those with Eli and never used it because by the time I got him in and adjusted correctly, I needed to take him out for whatever reason.

I was going to buy one and then got sidetracked and then they put the one I wanted on sale and then I got sidetracked. So I thought I’d go to the local store that carries them to check them out and of course, they didn’t have my size. (That didn’t stop the saleslady from trying to sell me one two sizes too small though.)

So when I got home I did some internet browsing and SCORE! I got the one I wanted at another online baby retailer for the sale price AND free shipping. Here’s a picture of it:

Can’t wait to try and sport the sling, the baby, and the sling backpack at the same time. I ought to look like a Sherpa when I have all that going on…

  1. I’m completely with you on the bag thing. The worst is walking in to REI and going up to the clearance section with all of the bags. Eep!

The hotsling looks completely rockin’. I can’t wait to see a picture of you and BabyTBA in it. If you like slings like that, my sister-in-law has one that it just has one loop that you’re supposed to only have to setup once and then just keep it in place. Makes it universal for fit. If you’re interested, just give me a heads up.

  2. I keep having to tell myself, “I don’t need anymore bags.” We have a whole closet devoted to bags – small bags, purses, big bags, duffel bags, name it. We were running out of space so when it came time for the diaper bag, I went looking through the closet. We are using a former laptop bag as our diaper bag and it’s working out really well. All those compartments are perfectly sized for diapers and paraphenalia. And it’s manly enough for the daddy.

We got a sling similar to what Kat described – set it up once, and you just put it on over your hand and off. Worked out well for us, except for a bit of tightening we had to do since mom and dad have very different body shapes. The one you got looks really cool.

  3. Yes, I have a place for bags at our house too. It’s called my closet, the coat closet in the living room, the attic, and a variety in both Eli’s room and the guest/baby’s room and oh yeah, there’s a few in the office closet too.

Do you think I have a problem?

  4. Cool sling. I have one more shower to get through before I go buy any baby stuff. I’m quite proud of myself for not having bought much stuff so far. I wanted to wait and see what we got before I got too crazy with buying baby things. But I must say that I am looking forward to spending the gift cards and money that people have sent us.

    Look out BabiesR’Us, here I come 😉
