Consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senator Joe Lieberman says that he <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/12\/07\/lieberman-understand-doj-treason\/\">can&#8217;t understand why the DoJ hasn&#8217;t charged Assange with treason<\/a>, a charge which applies only to US citizens. Assange is Australian.<\/li>\n<li>New York Times editor Bill Keller, speaking with the BBC, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RvMn4q4FNHg\">admits that they clear what Wikileaks cables to release with the government<\/a>. The NYT reporting on the cables often matches pre-established administrative storylines <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fair.org\/blog\/2010\/11\/29\/nyt-oversells-wikileaksiranian-missiles-story\/\">even when the quoted cables, in their entirety, do not fully support that view<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Wall Street Journal muses that <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704584804575644490285411052.html\">Assange might be an &#8220;enemy combatant&#8221;<\/a> and hints (without stating outright) that assassination might be one way of dealing with him.<\/li>\n<li>Pravda, the one-time government-run newspaper for the USSR, publishes an op-ed about Wikileaks <a href=\"http:\/\/english.pravda.ru\/opinion\/columnists\/03-12-2010\/116041-valerie_plame_wikileaks-0\/\">decrying the use of classified documents to hide wrong-doing<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Government groups from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/05\/world\/05restrict.html\">Department of Defense<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceref.com\/news\/viewsr.html?pid=35431\">NASA<\/a> to the Library of Congress block Wikileaks and forbid their employees or contractors from reading any of the widely-available cables.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE6B669H20101207\">Swedish investigation against Julian Assange for rape and sexual misconduct,<\/a> an investigation that has started and stopped and started again, led to Interpol issuing a red notice in a new-found commitment to helping catch those accused of rape.<\/li>\n<li>Mastercard and Visa block credit card charges for donations to Wikileaks, mere weeks after the New York Times showed that they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/28\/business\/28borker.html?pagewanted=5&#038;_r=2\">couldn&#8217;t bother to shut down the account of an eyeglasses vendor whose business practices included customer intimidation<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In response, the 4chan-based Anonymous group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/media\/2010\/dec\/08\/operation-payback-mastercard-website-wikileaks\">DDOSes Mastercard and other sites<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Yesterday, the US announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/r\/pa\/prs\/ps\/2010\/12\/152465.htm\">that they would host World Press Freedom Day in 2011<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is an infowar as written by Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard and staged by Mel Brooks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The furor over Wikileaks has become Theatre of the Absurd.
