I Hadn’t Realized He’d Retired From the Public Eye

John Hughes, dead at 59.

For me, it was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, though I also give the nod to Sixteen Candles despite its casual racism.

Did you have a favorite among his movies?

It’s a tie for me between Breakfast Club and Some Kind of Wonderful although at the time I certainly put many, many miles on Pretty in Pink. What was his deal with red-headed kids?

Some Kind of Wonderful – started my crush on Eric Stoltz…
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – started my crush on Matthew Broderick (okay, well War Games STARTED it, but Ferris clinched it). The scene with the parade was just fantastically awesome!
Breakfast Club – started my crush on Judd Nelson
    See a trend?
I saw a full list of his movies & think I only liked and/or saw 10 of them.

I saw Weird Science when I was way too young to have done so. Definitely part of my formative experiences. :~)

Fast Times was actually directed by Amy Heckerling, who also directed Clueless years later.
