Liza says, “Sleep is for the weak!”

Do you remember when I used to complain all the time about Liza’s lousy sleep habits? Well everything old is new again.

Liza’s current run of lousy sleep has me offering to give her to people I barely know. The rotten part is, several people have agreed to take her but decided against it when I tell them she’s regularly up two-five times per night and sometimes for more than two hours at a time.

The past three weeks I’ve subsisted on six hours of broken sleep per night or less. The first week Stephen was out of town. Last week was a bit easier because he was home, so he helped with the night time horrors. This week he is gone again and I am a barely functioning zombie of crankiness.

I thought it was her teeth. Then I thought it was an ear infection. Now I think she has redeveloped some terrifically lousy habits. I am also afraid that at least some of her nighttime awakenings are due to wanting to hang out with someone.

I ask all of you that tonight when you are falling asleep, think of Liza and pray to whatever sheep you count that she will stay asleep or failing that, will just stay in her bed quietly so I can sleep.

  1. ack! When my mother-in-law was here recently, I was surprised to see her feeding the kids a big snack directly before bed — and then they both slept in an extra hour (!). I’m not sure it’s necessarily the best thing for them, but it’s worth a try among the arsenal of failed weapons.

  2. Oi. Nothing like sleep dep to make things miserable. I’m sorry, Misty, and I hope you get some sleep sometime soon.

But I gotta say, “pray to whatever sheep you count” is my new favorite phrase. 🙂

  3. We envy you your six hours a night. 🙂

Actually, I get something close to that, but I’m at risk for pillow-based suffocation, or so I am told.

  4. Oh, Misty, I’m so sorry! I can’t imagine what it’s like to go for weeks without enough zzzzs. Well, if prayers from the kidless count (as we will never know that particular trial), you got ’em! My only thought is to flip to Liza’s cutest pictures and try to hold on to sanity!

Oh, and ditto on the new favorite phrase! 😉

  5. Here is what I have been told…when they are young and still growing, their sleep habits change every 6 months or so. When they are infants it’s because they can move around a lot more, when they are toddlers, they have more on their minds! It WILL pass!
