One Ad and One Music Video

I understand this makes me something of a shill for Old Spice, but I don’t care. “We’re not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it”, says the ad’s description, and if that doesn’t make you want to watch it right now, then I don’t know who you are any more.

Meanwhile, Rhett and Link created an awesome stop-motion animation video involving a whole lot of t-shirts.

  2. I’m amazed that corporate America is capable of producing something so edgy and awesome. Script, delivery, timing, effects, all perfect. Fantastic work.

    I especially appreciate that the description, which is awesome in its own right, is not repeated in the ad. These people have so much great material that they don’t need to plagiarise themselves.

    1. You know, I hadn’t thought about how they weren’t re-using the description. I completely agree with your assessment. I know if I’d come up with a description that perfect then I’d have used it over and over and over.

  3. @Jeff: Totally. “I’m on a horse,” I now know, will enter my conversation stream apparently randomly.

    I’m also impressed that, after 30 years as “grandpa’s cologne,” they’re doing something so fresh.

    And if Stephen hadn’t posted these two things together, I would have been able to cling to the idea that only cool, hip, indie people like Rhett and Link were coming up with truly clever, insightful, and imaginative things.

    I’m also really enchanted the resurgence of “low-tech” work like stop-motion animation: Now that we have such high-tech expectations of professionals (did everyone notice the turf-as-green-screen work at the Superbowl already? have I just not seen a football game in THAT long?), it’s so delightful to see that same sort of technology opening up creative avenues (while preserving older technologies!) to individuals.
