OK Go: Here It Goes Again (2006)
Their video for “A Million Ways”, a marvelous example of a low-budget DIY aesthetic, was a minor hit on the Internet back in 2005. The “Here It Goes Again” video is just as catchy. It’s Jamiroquai done with treadmills. Watch for the skating effect, easily the highlight of the video.
Jamiroquai: Virtual Insanity (1996)
Since I’m on a rock-band-gliding-around kick, here’s the Jamiroquai video I referenced earlier. It’s cool and slick and high-budget, but they clearly didn’t do it in a single take like OK Go did.
I’ve seen the Jamiroquai video before, and I recall seeing a ‘making of’ on it, so I know how most of the effects were done. That said, I really prefer the OK Go video. To me, it’s much slicker and better choreographed, and that music is just catchy! This is becoming one of my Friday highlights. Thanks again for sharing! (Oh, and I did find both Come on, Eileen and Safety Dance on YouTube!)
Yeah, I think I prefer the OK Go video as well. And glad you found 80s nostalgia on YouTube. Goodness knows that place can be a huge time-suck.
I CANNOT look away from the OK GO video. Eli and I have watched it about 4 times now.
The Ok Go video is just awesome. I really, really liked the skating effect. The awesome things that you can do with 8 treadmills and a little bit of your time. Makes me want to go to the gym late at night and have a little fun.
Great stuff (on both counts). I remember seeing the “Pop Up Videos” entry for “Virtual Insanity”. Once they showed how it was done, it was obvious. It’s interesting to me that they mixed such a low-tech effect with such high-dollar stuff. Overall, I like the OK Go video better, because they had to make do without the fancy CGI.
